Jenifa Mayanja
After more than 25 years carving out a career in the music business as DJ, music artist, producer, remixer, vocalist, label owner and now educator, Jenifa Mayanja is bringing a wealth of music experience, resourcefulness and practical experience to the field of mentoring & coaching.
Ms. Mayanja’s profile has maintained throughout the course of her career, a coveted underground buzz earning her a revered place in the house community and a reputation for being an innovative, fearless and respected musical ambassador for house music culture and for women in the music business.
She has played around the world in well known venues such as Panorama Bar, Rex Club, Corsica, Public Records and beloved events like “Freerotation”, and as a resident of newly minted top 10 boutique festival “Kala Festival”. As a label owner, Jenifa is the creator of Bumako Recordings label started in 2007 which introduced the world to Jenifa’s signature naturalistic deep house sound and Sound Warrior Records the label dedicated exclusively to releasing music by other women producers.
Feeling fed by music industry standards that encouraged homogenized talent and by the lack of any meaningful way forward that spoke to her own artistry, Jenifa had a philosophical breakthrough that led to the beginning of a mindset reset. From this breakthrough, Jenifa has created many educational and philosophical workshops all to help guide artists to the other side of this musical construct.
Jenifa Mayanja has formerly started a mentoring and personal success coaching program called “The Music Life Mentor” that offers individual and group workshops on topics covering creative practice, positive mindset tools, sustainable career development, music business fundamentals and technical know-how. The Music Life mentor has worked with several personal clients and has designed workshops for DICE festival, Generations of Vocal Jazz, and SEV Berlin.
Fighting hard to find her place throughout her many endeavours in the music business and especially as a woman of color, has taught valuable lessons about perseverance, charting unconventional paths to career success, the value of relationships and turning individuality into a powerful tool for artistic expression.
Jenifa has also taught several years at Catalyst(formely DBs Berlin),and as mentor for Spoon DJ workspace which is a DJ training initiative for women, trans and non-binary particpants.
